Townsite Infrastructure Improvement Project Begins July 29

July 28, 2026 - To improve the quality, reliability, and long-term performance of the townsite water system, water service line replacement work will begin today Tuesday, July 28, 2026, along a portion of Verbena Street.

Construction activities will take place in the area identified by the project team and will require a temporary road closure. During this time, residents will need to access Verbena Street from the south end of the roadway. The project is expected to continue for the next several weeks as crews progress from the north end of Verbena Street toward the south.

These infrastructure improvements are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the reliability and service quality of the townsite water distribution system. Residents are encouraged to follow posted traffic control measures and signage in the area to help ensure the safety of both the public and construction crews.

Increased Recreational Traffic Expected This Weekend

July 23, 2026 - Morenci employees and community members are advised that a large recreational gathering is expected to bring a significant increase in visitors to the area this weekend. As a result, heavier-than-normal traffic and congestion may occur on local roadways and throughout popular recreation areas.

Freeport-McMoRan is not affiliated with, sponsoring, organizing or participating in this event. This notice is being shared solely to help employees, families and community members plan accordingly and stay safe.

Individuals are encouraged to exercise caution and consider avoiding high-traffic recreation areas, including river access points and routes leading to the Martinez area via Rattlesnake Canyon Road, the San Francisco River, and lower Eagle Creek during peak activity periods.

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Expect increased vehicle traffic and travel delays.
  • Use extra caution when traveling on local roads and recreation routes.
  • Consider postponing trips to local river areas and the Martinez area via Rattlesnake Canyon Road during peak activity periods.
  • Be prepared for congestion, limited parking and increased recreational activity in the area.
  • Plan ahead and allow additional travel time if your plans require travel through affected areas.
  • Report any safety concerns or emergencies through the appropriate channels.

By staying aware of increased activity and planning accordingly, everyone can help reduce risks and enjoy a safe weekend.

Road Repairs – Multiple Townsite Locations

Beginning Monday, June 29, 2026, Pima Paving will conduct road repairs at the following locations:

  • Intersection of Reservation Rd. and Corral Rd.
  • Cochise Rd.
  • Fairbanks Rd.
  • Buena Vista St.

Crews will be working in these areas through an expected completion date of July 20, 2026. Traffic control measures will be in place.

  • Use caution when traveling through affected areas
  • Follow all posted traffic control signs and flagger directions
  • Do not park on roadways within the impacted zones
